Boonville-Missouri Valley Commission Company
Cattle Auction Report for 4/23/2013

Receipts:  1192    Last Week:  621    Year Ago:  654

Compared to last week’s light test, steers under 600 lbs steady to 2.00
lower, heifers under 600 lbs 3.00-5.00 higher and steers and heifers over 600
lbs steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter cows mostly steady. Positive news for beef
producers Tuesday as futures prices turned upward on the live and feeder cattle
contracts and downward on the corn contracts. This after what the industry
deemed a bearish Cattle on Feed report last Friday. Mother Nature still has the
cattle industry second guessing the calendar as snow is forecast for and
falling in parts of the Midwest. Continued substantial and measurable rain has
fallen over the past week, curtailing receipts in many areas of the state.
Demand and supply moderate. Supply consisted of 39 percent cows with a special
cow sale held in conjunction with the regular sale. The feeder supply
consisted of 47 percent steers and bulls, 53 percent heifers and 33 percent
of the receipts were over 600 lbs.
