Cattle Auction Report for 10/06/15

Receipts:  724    Week Ago:  311    Year Ago:  851

No true price comparisons available to last week. Quality was greatly improved
over last week with several big strings of yearlings on tap as well as some
groups of weaned calves with all the work done. Maybe some light at the end of the
tunnel, at least seeming so here at the local barn, as the market was indeed much
better than anyone expected it to be. Cattle futures closed sharply higher with
several months limit up. Extremely dry conditions throughout the region, great for
harvest but not for fall pasture. Slaughter cows 5.00 to 9.00 lower. Supply and
demand moderate. Cows and bulls accounted for 13 percent of the total offering. The
feeder supply consisted of 51 percent steers and bulls and 49 percent heifers; 64
percent of all the feeder cattle weighed over 600 lbs.
