Cattle Auction Report for 10/29/13                

Receipts:  731    Last Week:  400    Year Ago:  944

   Compared to last week, feeder cattle traded steady on a limited test. 
Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 lower. The feeder cattle auction featured a little
something for everyone, typical for this time of year, with a wide variety of
kind, quality and condition.  Missouri Valley Commission Company held a special
cow sale in conjunction with their regular weekly feeder cattle auction and the
bulk of this weeks receipts were cow/calf pairs, with most of those coming from
a local herd dispersal. Supply moderate. Cows and bulls accounted for 73 percent
of the total offering. The feeder supply consisted of 30 percent steers, 36
percent feeder bulls, and 34 percent heifers; 32 percent of all the feeder
cattle weighed over 600 lbs.   

   Feeder Steers:  Medium and Large 1  300-400 lbs 200.00-216.00; 400-500 lbs
182.00-191.00.  Medium and Large 1-2  pkg 398 lbs 195.00; 400-500 lbs 161.00-
181.00; few 500-600 lbs 161.00-170.00.  Large 1-2  pkg 578 lbs 159.50; pkg 608
lbs 155.50; pkg 716 lbs 150.25. 

   Feeder Heifers:  Medium and Large 1  300-400 lbs 174.00-176.00; 400-500 lbs
163.50-168.00; pkg 521 lbs fleshy 153.50; 600-700 lbs 143.00-149.00, pkg 660 lbs
full 133.00; pkg 710 lbs 142.00, pkg 722 lbs fleshy 136.50.  Medium and Large 1-
2  400-500 lbs 142.00-151.00; 500-600 lbs 136.00-141.00; pkg 643 lbs 133.50; pkg
860 lbs 137.00; pkg 976 lbs 121.75. 

   Feeder Bulls:  Medium and Large 1-2  pkg 327 lbs 202.00; 400-500 lbs 156.00-
165.00; 500-600 lbs 149.00-160.00; 600-700 lbs 141.00-152.50. 

   Bred Cows:  Medium and Large 1-2  Several 5-6 years 1200-1400 lbs mostly 2nd
stage 1440.00-1575.00 per head.  Short-solid and broken mouth cows 1225-1500 lbs
mostly 2nd few 3rd stage 1325.00-1500.00, few 1160.00-1200.00. 

   Cow/Calf Pairs:  3-6 yrs 1100-1350 lb cows with 150-300 lb calves mostly
1500.00-1700.00 per pair, pkg 3 yrs 1300 lb cows with 250 lb calves 1850.00; 7
yrs to broken mouth mostly blk cows 1200-1400 lbs few bred back with 150-350 lb
calves 1570.00-1800.00, pkg fancy 7 yrs 1300 lb cows with 300 lb calves 1925.00,
several crossbred/colored cows with 250-350 lb calves 1500.00-1635.00, few pkgs
broken mouth 1150-1250 lb cows with baby to 150 lb calves 1410.00-1530.00
