Our first auction was held Oct 23 of 2012. The current owners of MVCC purchased the stockyards formally known as Farmers Livestock Auction, at a real estate auction held on Sept 25, 2012. Mike Van Maanen, Justin Angell, and Jon Angell all started in the livestock market business with minor ownership shares in the Columbia Livestock Auction. In 1999 an opertunity to lease with the opportunity to purchase the stockyards in Bowling Green MO. The trio jumped at the chance understanding the potential that Northeast Missouri and West-central Illinois trade territory held. Starting from volume of around 24,000 the market quickly grew, with its best year topping out right at 80,000 head and consistantly selling between 65,000 and 75,000 head most years. The Angell and Van Maanen families pride themselves in running fast pace and efficient auctions of farm fresh and farmer consigned cattle throughout their history at Columbia Livestock Auction, Eastern Missouri Commission Co. in Bowling Green and now at Missouri Valley Commission Co in Boonville. Our guiding philosophy has been summerized by the saying "We work FOR our selling customers, and WITH our buying customers." Striking a good balance of service between buyers and sellers with consistent and acurate representation of the livestock thru efficient and competitive price discovery in a public auction is a weekly goal for us. It's a proven method of business that has served several generations of our families to which we intend to continue on.
